アメリカ社会への理解を深め（千葉大）、日本語を母語とする英語学習者の課題を発見する（アラバマ大）。

Chiba University: Enhanced understanding of the American society
UA: Discovery of issues concerning English as a foreign language (EFL) students with Japanese as their first language

授業内容
Class content

事前学習としてアメリカ南部の歴史と政治を学び、Blackboardを利用して、アラバマ大の学生とアメリカ社会についての意見交換をした上で、現地で4週間の英語研修を行う。事後学修として、本研修を通じて学んだことについてエッセイを書き、アラバマ大生からフィードバックを得る。
アラバマ大生は、意見交換に加え、日本語を母語とする英語学習者に特徴的な学習上の課題を発見する。

Advance study included learning about the history and politics of the American South and using Blackboard to exchange opinions on the American society with the UA students, followed by four weeks of English study on site. As a follow-up assignment, the Japanese students composed essays on what they had learned and received feedback from the UA students.
In addition to the exchange of opinions, the UA students discovered various issues characteristic of native Japanese speakers studying EFL.

千葉大側で自己紹介およびアメリカ社会に関する質問をビデオ収録し、BlackboardのDiscussion Boardを用いてアラバマ大学生からのフィードバックを得た。千葉大生はわかりにくい発音を指摘してもらったり、トランプ大統領をめぐるアメリカ人の見方、銃規制などについて意見を交換することができた。アラバマ大学側は、さまざまなレベルの英語学習者に接して、英語教育上の課題を発見することができた。

The Chiba University students recorded their introductions and questions about the American society on video and received feedback from the UA students through Blackboard Discussion Board. Apart from receiving guidance on pronunciation and other issues, they exchanged opinions on the American views of President Donald Trump and gun control, among other issues. Meanwhile, the UA students encountered EFL students at various levels and discovered issues in EFL education.
