Class objectives
By means of online joint study with students from the University of Cincinnati, a Chiba University partner school, in addition to contributing to the study of Japanese language and culture among the UC students, the aim is to promote student exchange and the internationalization of Chiba University. Through active learning in terms of producing video content to be presented to the students of the other country, students learn the culture, language, and society of the other party from one another, and through exchanging opinions, an understanding of the current status and issues is gained for global society as well as of the meaning and significance of the study of Japan from a global perspective.
Class content
The participants in the class were students and faculty from Chiba University, University of Cincinnati faculty member Junko Markovich, and Japanese language students from the University of Cincinnati.
In principle, the class was held through Moodle and English Moodle. The students from Chiba University produced video, image, and PowerPoint content in English and Japanese for the students from Cincinnati as individuals and groups.
After providing the content, exchanges were held via online discussions in English and Japanese. However, owing to the time difference, there were no synchronous two-way discussions.
Exchanges in AY 2021 were held twice, once from late October to mid-November and once from mid-January to early February 2022.

To interact with Japanese language students from the University of Cincinnati, Chiba University students created videos on topics such as Japanese language and culture, student life, and pop culture and added subtitles in Japanese and English. The University of Cincinnati students, many of whom had a strong interest in and understanding of Japan, commented on the videos; the content of the comments covered a lot of ground, leading to interactions that served significantly as language exchanges.

授業目的
千葉大学の協定校であるシンシナティ大学の学生とWeb上で共に学ぶことにより、UC学生の日本語・日本文化学習に寄与するとともに、学生同士の交流と千葉大学の国際化を促進することを目的とする。相手国の学生に提示する映像コンテンツを作成するというアクティブ・ラーニングによって、双方の文化・言語・社会を学び合い、意見を交わす中で、グローバル化社会の現状と課題、世界から見た日本研究の意味・意義を把握する。
授業内容
本授業の参加者は、千葉大学の本授業の履修者および複数の教員、シンシナティ大学教員の順子マルコビッチ氏、およびシンシナティ大学で日本語を学習している学生である。
原則として、Moodleおよび英語版Moodleを通して授業を実施する。千葉大学の履修学生は、全員が個人およびグループで、シンシナティ学生向けの、英語+日本語による映像・画像・PowerPoint等のコンテンツを制作する。
コンテンツの提供後は、Web上での英語+日本語によるディスカッション等の交流を行う。ただし、時差等の関係で、同時刻の双方向型ディスカッションは行わない。
2021年度の交流は、10月下旬から11月中旬と、年明けの1月中旬から2月上旬の2回に分けて実施した。

日本語を学習しているシンシナティ大学学生との交流のため、千葉大学生側は、日本の言語・文化、学生の日常、ポップカルチャーなどのテーマを決めて動画を作成、日本語と英語の字幕を付すなどの工夫を行った。その動画を元に、シンシナティ大学の学生と相互にコメントし合ったが、日本に興味を持ち、知識のある学生が多いため、コメントの内容は多岐に及び、ランゲージエクスチェンジの要素も強い交流が出来た。
