Data Visualization led experience for cultural heritage
Data visualization led experiences allow users / participants to get a deeper understanding of a complex topic through interacting and navigating with and throughout data.
This project aims to generate experiences, based on cultural datasets and databases to serve as repositories of knowledge for future visitors to explore, by using state of the art machine learning techniques for image generation and data visualization.

The project was divided into two sections, where students worked on a mixed cross cultural / institutional environment by working in 4 teams, each team composed by both Chiba university students and the new school students:

2022/11/16-11/27
Part 1. Learning about Data heritage in Sumida Tokyo.
Exploring the concept of cultural heritage by taking advantage of the strategic location of the Design Research Institute. Redefining Sumida by designing a Data Visualization driven experience for an International Target Audience.
After completing the intensive short course students shared online resources, presentations and models with their partners online.

2023/2/14-2023/2/26
Part 2. Guiding and fine-tuning text-based AI image generators with museographic databases.
Students learned about state-of-the-art machine learning processes for image generation by collaborating with the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum and using the Smithsonian Museum collection databases a base for designing a team-based dataset and diffusion-based image generation model. Results were presented on an open presentation session at Parsons, School of design.
